The city-run Ruka parking hall has room for 320 cars and is open to cars around the clock all year. It costs €1.50 per hour or €15 per 24 hours, paid in cash or by Visa, EuroCard or MasterCard at the machines in both stairwells; a lost ticket costs €50.

Ski boxes fit; no trailers
The parking hall's maximum height is 2.4 m, enough for a tall car with a roof ski box, but trailers are not allowed. Car ramps are on Rukatunturintie and Rukankyläntie; a multi-day ticket at €15 per day lets you drive in and out during your holiday.

The Reindeer Herders' Association names Highway 20 between Panumanjärvi and Taivalkoski (on the road from Oulu) among the stretches most prone to reindeer collisions, and November, December and January are the worst months. Slow down and take extra care there.
