Congestion tax: weekdays 06:00-18:29
Congestion tax is charged on weekdays for driving into and out of Stockholm's inner city and on Essingeleden, from 06:00 to 18:29. The daily maximum per vehicle is 135 kr in high season (1 March to the day before Midsummer Eve and 15 August-30 November) and 105 kr in low season; there is no tax at weekends, on public holidays or in July except its first five weekdays.

The congestion-tax bill goes to the vehicle owner

The congestion-tax high season began on 15 August and low season, with lower rates, starts again on 1 December. In the rest of 2026 no tax is charged on 24-25 December and 31 December.

Studded-tyre bans on central streets
Studded tyres are banned on Hornsgatan, on all of Fleminggatan and on Kungsgatan between Sveavägen and Birger Jarlsgatan; crossing these streets is allowed. From 1 October 2027 the ban extends to Sveavägen, Birger Jarlsgatan, Vasagatan and Torsgatan.

Environmental zone class 2 on Hornsgatan
On most of Hornsgatan, diesel cars must meet Euro 6 and petrol cars at least Euro 5. Cars registered from 1 September 2015 are Euro 6 and from 1 September 2011 Euro 5; all cars may cross Hornsgatan.

City zero-emission zone (class 3) not in force
A class 3 environmental zone planned for the City blocks inside Kungsgatan, Birger Jarlsgatan, Hamngatan and Sveavägen would admit only fully electric, Euro 6 gas and fuel-cell cars (not plug-in hybrids). The county board revoked it on 19 May 2026; the city's appeal is with Transportstyrelsen.

Five parking tariff zones
Stockholm has five on-street parking tariff zones; in zone 1, central Stockholm east of Klara sjö and south of Kungsgatan, visitor parking costs 55 kr per hour every day around the clock. The sign on the street decides which tariff applies.
