Good to know at Malta Airport

• Hire cars are collected at Park East

  Pre-booked hire cars are collected from the rental offices on Level 1 (lower) of the Park East car park. Park East is a separate building about a 3-minute walk from the terminal: follow the 'RENTAL CARS' signs, floor markings and lift signs.

• First 10 minutes free in the airport car parks

  The first 10 minutes in any of the airport car parks are free; after that you pay the rate for the relevant time band. After the first 24 hours, every additional day or part of a day is charged in full.

• Drive on the left: 80 km/h open road, 50 km/h in towns

  In Malta and Gozo you drive on the left. Unless road signs say otherwise, the speed limit is 80 km/h on the open road and 50 km/h in built-up areas.

• Valletta: park outside the city

  Driving in Valletta is tricky, with tight corners, one-way streets and limited parking. Malta's tourism authority recommends parking outside the city; a Park-and-Ride in Floriana runs regular shuttle buses to and from Castille Place.

• Free public car parks with attendants

  Transport Malta runs a number of public car parks around Malta and Gozo, staffed by attendants. Parking there is free of charge, though you may give the attendant a tip if you wish.

• Gozo ferry: no reservations, ticket paid in Gozo

  The Gozo Channel ferry takes no reservations: cars queue in the marshalling areas at Ċirkewwa (Malta) and Mġarr (Gozo) and board first come, first served. The car-and-driver round-trip ticket is bought online or at the Mġarr vehicle ticket booths and is checked at Mġarr before the crossing back.
