A28 north of Porto: only some gantries are free
Since 1 January 2025 the A28 (Norte Litoral) gantries between Esposende and Antas and between Neiva and Darque no longer charge tolls. The other A28 gantries were not part of this change.

Under Decree-Law 84-C/2022, rent-a-car companies in Portugal must fit every car with an on-board toll device and subscribe to a toll payment system. Many offer direct debit of tolls when you hire; if not, tolls on a Portuguese-registered car can be paid later at CTT post offices or Payshop.
