At Heathrow you complete the rental formalities at your car-hire company's desk in the arrivals area of your terminal; the company then usually takes you to the car on its own transfer bus. The rental company tells you where to return the car.

Motorway junctions for each terminal
For Terminals 2 and 3, leave the M4 at junction 4 or the M25 at junction 15. Terminals 4 and 5 are reached from junction 14 of the M25; from the M4, exit at junction 4b and follow the M25 south to junction 14 for Terminal 5.

£7 Terminal Drop-Off Charge
A £7 charge applies every time a vehicle enters a terminal drop-off area, 24 hours a day, all year. It is paid online or by phone, by midnight the next day at the latest, and cannot be paid at the airport; non-payment leads to an £80 Parking Charge. Dropping off is free at the Park & Ride car parks, which have a free bus to the terminals.

Central London Congestion Charge
Driving in central London's Congestion Charge zone costs £18 a day if paid on the day or in advance, or £21 if paid by midnight of the third day after travel. It applies 07:00-18:00 Monday to Friday and 12:00-18:00 at weekends and on bank holidays, with no charge from Christmas Day to the New Year's Day bank holiday.
